HE-HOCl: The Advanced Chemistry Behind Destroying Mycotoxins

Most mold cleaning products only treat the surface. But what lingers after remediation is often more dangerous than the mold itself: mycotoxins—toxic metabolic byproducts that can trigger chronic illness and are notoriously difficult to remove.

At Superstratum, we’ve developed a solution to go deeper. HE-HOCl (Hypotonic Electrolytic Hypochlorous Acid) is a next-generation oxidizer designed to do what others can’t: break apart the chemical structure of mycotoxins and render them inert.

What Is HE-HOCl?

HOCl is a molecule naturally produced by white blood cells to fight pathogens. While commercial products attempt to replicate it, most fall short—compromising performance with acidity or high salt content in order to extend shelf life.

HE-HOCl is different. Created through a proprietary electrolysis process, it delivers a pure, stabilized solution with:

  • Neutral pH (6.5–7.0)
  • Low, controlled oxidation-reduction potential (ORP)
  • Ultra-low total dissolved solids (TDS), just 2–4 parts per thousand

Why pH, TDS, and ORP Matter—And Where Others Fall Short

To prolong shelf life, most HOCl products are acidified (pH 3.5–5) or artificially buffered. But acidity shifts HOCl into weaker chemical forms, reducing its oxidative power—especially against complex toxins like mycotoxins.

High-ORP HOCl (above 800 mV) presents the opposite problem: it’s too reactive. It breaks down quickly and reacts indiscriminately—often neutralizing itself on contact with surfaces, salts, or even your skin.

HE-HOCl strikes the ideal balance:

  • Neutral pH ensures optimal chemical activity
  • Low but effective ORP allows targeted oxidation without collateral damage
  • Ultra-low TDS prevents premature degradation or reversion to salt water

Understanding ORP: Precision vs. Power

Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) measures a solution’s ability to donate or steal electrons.

  • High ORP = Blowtorch – aggressive and indiscriminate
  • Low ORP = Laser scalpel – controlled and targeted

Mycotoxins require a precise strike. Too little oxidation, and the bonds don’t break. Too much, and you risk damaging materials or causing inflammatory reactions.

HE-HOCl is formulated with the exact ORP window needed to break these bonds safely and effectively.

HE-HOCl vs. Standard HOCl – Side-by-Side

Feature HE-HOCl (Superstratum) Standard HOCl
pH Level Neutral (6.5–7.0) Acidic (3.5–5.5)
ORP Low & controlled High & unstable
TDS 2–4 ppt Often much higher
Targeted Oxidation Yes – breaks unsaturated bonds No – reacts indiscriminately
Stability High – minimal degradation Dependent on acidity
Safety Profile Non-irritating, non-corrosive Can irritate or corrode
Mycotoxin Destruction Lab-verified Not verified
Residue Evaporates cleanly May leave acidic residue

How HE-HOCl Works at the Molecular Level

Mycotoxins aren’t living—they’re chemical compounds. Built from unsaturated carbon bonds, they resist breakdown and can cling to surfaces or remain airborne for years.

HE-HOCl neutralizes these toxins by donating a single electron to their bonds. This disrupts the molecular structure of the toxin and renders it biologically inactive.

Third-Party Testing: Verified Mycotoxin Neutralization

To validate its effectiveness, Superstratum submitted HE-HOCl (Superstratum Building Cleaner) for testing by Real-Time Laboratories and Wonder Makers Environmental. Test panels were treated after intentional contamination with four common indoor mycotoxins:

  • Gliotoxin
  • Trichothecenes (Group D)
  • Ochratoxin A
  • Zearalenone

Results:

  • 100% removal of Gliotoxin, Ochratoxin A, and Zearalenone
  • 77–81% reduction in Trichothecenes
  • 94–95% overall mycotoxin reduction

This isn’t just cleaning. This is molecular disarmament.

HE-HOCl is Part of the Superstratum Whole Home System

HE-HOCl is the first step in Superstratum’s Whole Home System—a complete cleaning and detoxification protocol designed to eliminate the mycotoxins in your home.

1. Clean with HE-HOCl

Fog and wipe surfaces, belongings, and HVAC systems with HE-HOCl to neutralize mycotoxins at the molecular level.

  • Safe for skin, surfaces, and soft goods
  • Effective on walls, furniture, fabrics, vents, and electronics
  • Targets dust-bound and surface-level mycotoxins directly

2. Gas with Deodor Bombs

Deploy chlorine dioxide gas to reach deep into structural cavities where fogging and wiping can’t go.

  • Penetrates walls, ductwork, crawlspaces, and attics
  • Reaches hidden contamination zones
  • Purifies air and surfaces in every corner of your space

3. Coat with Endurance Coating

Coat high-risk areas with an invisible, water-resistant barrier that actively resists mold growth for up to 10 years.

  • Works on drywall, tile, wood, concrete, and more
  • Ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and laundry rooms
  • Resists mold in any condition
Final Takeaway: You can’t kill mycotoxins—they aren’t alive. You have to destroy their chemical structure.

HE-HOCl is one of the only solutions proven to do that.
